Interview by Sonia Cury, Alexandre Vinicius and a special guest, Renato Gonçalves from "NBA no Brasil" Twitter . The translation of this interview into English was done

1) You have suffered followed injuries (calf and
shoulder). What are you doing to keep yourself away from the court not only
physically, but also psychologically?
Phisically, I’ve been working hard on the
cardiovascular part, cycling, running, bodybulding. I’m always exercising and not feeling pain in
my shoulder. Psychologically, it’s hard, but I’m happy with my recovery. I feel
better every day.
2) You play a fundamental part in Spurs defense. Was
there any talk among players and the coaching staff about the team’s defense
after your injury?
No, all players are able to make a good defense and
help the team in that way.
3) Which part of your game brought more attention
during preseason and which deficiency you try to work harder?
NBA is a very physical league, every year young
athletes with more athletic abilities are drafted. This last off season, I
tried to keep my physical condition and I tried to get better technically in
everything. You always want to improve your throw, hook shot, pass, etc.
4) Every year questions arise concerning the Spurs, if
they will reach the finals because of the age of some athletes, but the team is
always among the first positions in its Conference. Is the team focused to seek
another final?
The team is super focused, we know we had bad losses
this year, but we know the potential of this team. Our goal is to fight for the
ring.
5) You are an idol of a franchise in Spain. You got
the post of captain of the team, you were the second player in the history of
ACB League to win two MVP awards in the same season. What have you learned from
all those years in Baskonia and what do this team mean to you?
It means A LOT! I learned to play basketball there. I
owe a lot to that team, city and the fans. I learned what work ethics and
sacrifice are, and without those you don’t go far, talent alone is of no
use.
6) Which one is the unforgettable game in your
carreer?
There are a lot of games which are hard to forget, but
my last game as a Baskonista is really unforgettable, we won the final against
Barcelona in the last second.
7) Skip Bayless, famous North-American journalist, said you
have the best blocks on pick-and-roll on NBA. Do you think this is a compliment
for you game or is it not that relevant?
I appreciate the acknowledgment. Journalists sometimes
speak highly and sometimes speak badly. We have to get used to it. It’s their
job.
8) How do you imagine your career 5 years from now? In
a matter of titles, trades, good seasons…
It’s hard to plan the future. For now, I want to live
the present, recover and try to win a ring with the Spurs.
